"ホイットマンの詩" dedicated to R. Wiiliam
後期日程の発表がはじまりました。
いろいろな結果があるでしょう。
それぞれに、また、春は来ます。僕にも、生きた年数分だけいろいろな春がありました。
桜の咲く頃、その下では、それぞれの「岐路」に向かう教え子たちが
みなそれぞれの想いを胸に1日1日を過ごします。
大志を抱き新しい環境へ飛び込む
「何かを変える」ために海原へ漕ぎ出す
自分を見つめ自分を咎め、本当の自分の限界を知ろうとする
不安を抱えながらも、「次の春」を心に描く
後ろ髪引かれる何かを断ち切り、新しい今を創ろうとする
いろいろです。
結果よりも「過程」
成功も失敗も「同じ価値」
まっすぐ進む道にも、「回り道」にも、きっとそれ自体の視野があります

We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute.
We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race.And the human race is filled with passion.
我々はかわいいからという理由で詩を読み、書くのではない。
我々は人類の一員だから詩を読む、書くのだ。
人類とは情熱にあふれている。
And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life.But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
医学、法律、ビジネス、工学、これらは崇高な追求であり、生活の維持に必要不可欠だ。だが、詩、美、恋、愛。これらの為に我々は生きている。
To quote from Whitman,
“O me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring;
of the endless trains of the faithless…
of cities filled with the foolish;
what good amid these, O me, O life?”ウィットマンは言った
「おお我よ、命よ、幾度となく悩まされる疑問、
信義のない長い列、愚かな者で満ちた街
この中にどんな意味があるというのか、
我よ、命よ。」

君の紡ぐその詩はどんなものになるのだろう
今は亡きRobin Wiiliamsの作品「今を生きる」の中で彼が語るホイットマンの詩
自分が高校卒業後大学へと向かう時、このセリフを繰り返し見た記憶があります。
"Answer. That you are here – that life exists, and identity;"
これほど勇気をもらった言葉はありません
たかが受験、終わりでも始まりでもない、一つの過程
きっとそれぞれの心に刻まれたはずです
それぞれの想いで迎える春
僕はこの言葉を贈ります

Now. I want you to find your own walk right now.
君達の瞳がこう言っている、「人と違う生き方がしたい」と。
僕達には、人と同化したいという欲求がある。
だが、自分を信頼しなければ。

「森の分かれ道、人の通らぬ道を行け、全てが変わる」
君達には、自分らしい歩き方を見つけて欲しい。
